In today’s action, President Trump rescinded Biden’s AI EO, which, among other things, discouraged intellectual theft in training AI systems.

Today, Trump issued a new executive order rescinding Biden’s previous directive on AI use and development.

Trump’s Order Rolls Back Intellectual Property Protections

A keystone of the previous policy under Biden was to discourage businesses from developing AI generative models that benefitted from others’ intellectual property. In 2023, a group of prominent authors sued OpenAI for using their work in developing generative AI models.

Another element of Biden’s executive order was a plan to implement a watermarking system that would distinguish AI-generated content from that developed by humans.
